    • There are countless fitness gyms & clubs which serve their communities well and are very profitable; as there are a great many 'traditional' martial art studios and firearm/gun ranges which do likewise. Similarly, there are numerous archery ranges & clubs, and a smattering of bushcraft/primitive survival schools which serve their niche..... but there is ONLY ONE "panoptic" martial arts & survival training school which will cohesively combine them ALL... and that is Calpeper® Martial Arts.

    • While most systems provide only a basic overview of its origins, Calpeper® training includes a study in America's founding history; teaching things that are often overlooked or taught out of context in school. While our members are diverse, Calpeper® culture is decidedly Pro-American.

HISTORY:

The original "Culpeper Minutemen" (Culpeper, VA) were organized on July 17, 1775 and fought for the patriot side in the first year of the American Revolution. Although the terms militia and minutemen are sometimes used interchangeably today, in the 18th century there was a decided difference between the two. Militia were men in arms formed to protect their towns from foreign invasion and ravages of war. Minutemen were a small hand-picked elite force which were required to be highly mobile and able to assemble quickly. Minutemen were selected from militia muster rolls by their commanding officers. They were most often chosen for their enthusiasm, reliability, and physical strength. Usually about one quarter of the militia served as Minutemen, performing additional duties as such.

In October 1775, the minutemen from Culpeper county were sent to Hampton in response to British ships attempting to land. The riflemen were able to effectively shoot the men manning the ships cannons, and the fleet eventually sailed away. The Culpeper militia next participated in the Battle of Great Bridge in December 1775. The battle was a complete American victory. There were accounts of the battle that suggested the British were unnerved by the reputation of the frontiersmen.

With great respect and admiration for these American patriots, who fought against tyranny and oppression to champion the virtues of freedom and independence, we are so-named in their honor; ourselves not founded in Culpeper but, rather, in California.

PHILOSOPHY:

In trust with that same unifying spirit which makes up the heart and soul of “America”…   Calpeper® Panoptic Martial Arts & Survival Training is open to every American citizen and U.S. Veteran regardless of race, gender, creed, religion and socio-economic or political persuasion; provided that such do not run in contrast to, nor in conflict with, America's founding principles and documents.

It is worth noting that – while individual Calpeper® members come from various backgrounds and walks-of-life, each with their own views and ideas – the official position of Calpeper® (as an organization) shall at all times remain religiously agnostic and politically independent; and, in all cases concerning such matters, shall defer always to the wisdom and principles of our nation’s Founding Fathers.

The United States is comprised of many types of people, from many types of backgrounds. The strength of our nation can be attributed to our great “melting pot”. This wonderful variety – gathered together as one nation, and as one “people” – is not only the distinct cause of our greatness, but it was a "revolutionary" concept at its inception more than 240 years ago.  It is therefore in this fashion that we approach our study of martial arts.   By “seeing the whole” of what martial arts is, and bringing it together into “one view”, We become better martial artists & safeguards of freedom.   By practicing basic "bushcraft" and survival skills, We become more secure in our ability to care for ourselves & our families.   By connecting our present to our past, and learning from the wisdom of those who came before us, We become better Americans & Patriots.

Every system of martial arts comes with its own culture which is based on its origin, history and those who founded / developed it. Calpeper® is no different in that respect. However, while most systems put generally little emphasis on this element, Calpeper® puts a great deal of emphasis on this; making “America’s Founding” an integral part of its core curriculum. It is worth noting that – while individual Calpeper® members may come from various backgrounds and walks-of-life, each with their own views and ideas – the official position of Calpeper® (as an organization) shall at all times remain religiously agnostic and politically independent; and, in all cases concerning such matters, shall defer always to the wisdom and principles of our nation’s Founding Fathers.

“The greatest good we can do our country is to heal its party divisions & make them one people. I do not speak of their leaders who are incurable, but of the honest and well-intentioned body of the people.”
~ Thomas Jefferson (Letter to John Dickinson, 23 July 1801)

There will almost certainly be anti-American sentiments which may react & respond negatively to this system & company; painting it and calling it what it is 'not'. Let them; We appreciate free advertising.

“Let them call me rebel and welcome, I feel no concern from it.”
